Scheepieswol CAL Completed

I have kept the words to a minimum as this is such a long post with all the images of each week. I did enjoy making this blanket even though the yarn and hook size were finer and smaller than I usually like to work with.  I find that smaller hooks are more stressfull on my wrist.

Crochet Scheepieswol Blanket Joining Edges

I made this for a very close friend and I am pleased to report that she was very happy with the finished blanket. There is something special for me in gifting a blanket, I think it’s because it’s a timeless item and is a reflection of our friendship.

Beautiful blanket! There’s something about blankets, I don’t know what it is… my kids love getting them, and my youngest drags hers around like Linus from Peanuts – all three of them! I guess they’re tangible evidence of our cuddling sessions. The three of us love nothing more than curling up on the sofa in the living room together, whether the tv is on or not, and burying ourselves under a blanket. Especially my youngest and I!

I know what you mean, I think we put so much of ourselves into the making process with a blanket that the new owner can feel it when they take ownership. I made blankets for our 4 a couple of years ago (it actually took me nearly 2 years to make them) and I know that they really appreciate them. For me I feel have have given them something that will always be a part of me, even long after I am gone.

Thank you so much, I did wonder if there were too many photos but I limited myself to one for each week. Just got home after a 10 hour day so it was nice to open up the computer to read your lovely comment.

It looks amazing! What patterns do you use? I started making squares for a blanket but I think I made them too small, I worked out I would need about a hundred.

This one was done following a CAL, you will find the link at the bottom of the post. I guess the number of squares depends on how big you want the blanket to be and how big the squares are. There are 60 squares in this blanket and it sits really nicely over the bottom of a double bed or would be full size on a single.

This is absolutely beautiful! I wish I had the patience for larger crochet projects, though this inspires me that way 🙂

Thank you, it’s funny as I really wasn’t sure about the ridging effect of the joining at first but was glad I persevered in the end. It grew on me and I love it now.

Wow! You finished it! Just lovely to see it in all its colours. A blanket too far, for me, this one. A case of taking too much on at once! I imagine gifting a blanket is quite emotional, but what a gift.

I think it’s emotional because you put so much of yourself into a blanket, I loved the way you didn’t know how it would turn out in the end. We are so used to picking out a project from a finished image. Will you get round to finishing yours do you think?

Thank you, I am pleased with how it turned out, the CAL was done blind with each square pattern being released over 10 weeks so you had no idea what was coming next. It made it quite exciting.

I am sure you will get around to it when you are ready. I made blankets for each of my 4 children a couple of years ago, it took nearly 2 years to do them all but I am so glad that I did it and they all love them so it was worth it.

That sounds like a good idea and I am sure you can find things to make with the spare yarn. I loved the patterns and would certainly make it again but have to admit I wouldn’t want to use the fine cotton again as it hurt my wrist having to grip the hook.

Yes I completely agree It was not a comfortable size hook at all.

It’s spectacular! And I think you were absolutely right to use more than one color in some of the blocks–it adds interest and sets off the centers so well. Your friend is a very lucky person, to have you!

Thank you for your kind words, my trouble is I get bored using single colours but I agree with you the centres and patterns stand out more with the additional colours.
