Firstly I must give my heartfelt thanks to all of you who have made pledges to help with our yarn bombing project; I know our patients will love it!
You have all asked for ideas of what to make so here goes……….
The name of the project is Fantasy Garden so here is an overview of what we are aiming to create through our creative collaboration:
- Flowers: As the overriding theme is “Gardens”, flowers of all colours, shapes and sizes would be wonderful and, in particular, sunflowers. I have been using a video tutorial by Meladora’s Creations to make mine.
- Bunting: I’d like to create a festive feeling so bunting is needed to hang around the building and garden to draw the spectacle together and attract attention from passersby. Attic24 has a great tutorial.
- Birds: This simple birdie pattern is an easier choice if you fancy something quick and straightforward and it looks great in all sorts of colour combinations. Another tutorial from Lucy at Attic24.
And if you feel like getting even more creative, there are two mini themes that I would like to incorporate into the Fantasy Garden…
- Fairy Garden: A Fantasy Garden wouldn’t be complete without a few fairies, so I will be making fairies, toadstools and gnomes.
- Seaside Scenery: And finally, because we live by the sea, I couldn’t resist a seaside scene. A lovely friend of mine is knitting the sea! So if you fancy making some fish or even seals and seagulls, I will find them a happy home by the sea!

On the flowers I am making, do you want end woven in and some left for your to attach? Leaves attached? Please let me know what will make it easiest for you. Such a great project. I am very happy to be able to help you out. 🙂

I looked into shipping overseas, and it’s just going to cost too much for me to join in, but i still LOVE the idea of it all, and look forward to seeing photos of the finished event 😉

Oh how wonderful, fish will be great, funnily enough I have just finished writing up a fish pattern today. I really struggled to find patterns I liked online so I decided to make one myself, it might not be the best fish ever but I think he is cute. I am interested to see what fishy patterns you have to use. I will email you the address. In terms of the timing I have asked for flowers by 1 August just so we have time to sew them all into place on the netting, fish or anything else will be much quicker to set up, so if possible to have them by mid August would be preferable. Thank you for helping.

I will put my fish pattern out as a tutorial as soon as I can sort through the photos, maybe if I let you know you might be able to test it for me. I have made a couple so I think it is clear but it’s always better when a fellow crafter can confirm any errors.

I have a book dedicated to crochet flowers my mom gave me. There is a sunflower pattern in there. 🙂 Can’t wait to get started! When should my creations be done by?

The book sounds lovely, there are so many flower patterns out there, we would be very pleased to receive any style so don’t feel you have to use the patterns I have suggested if you want to use your Mom’s book. The 1 August would be ideal as this will give us enough time to design the flower beds and sew them all in place ready for the opening on 22 August. Hope that is ok for you.
