Well, this was supposed to be one of my ‘finishing off’ projects but I have to be honest and say that I fell in love with the Apache Tears pattern and could not bring myself to resign it to the back of the flower cushion. So I ended up with yet another project to finish! But on a good note, I love it!
When it came to making a back for the cushion I was careful to keep it as simple as possible so decided to go for a simple stripe.
But how to make the opening? That would take a bit of thinking about, I did not want to use buttons as the cushion is going to go onto the new wooden kitchen bench and if it is used to sit on I thought the buttons might dig in to ones bottom. Then I remembered a video I had stumbled upon recently that shows how to work a flower into a row of crochet. Mmmmmmmm if I do flowers like these they can become the buttons, could this work?
And to open.
I think it worked really well and am so happy with my new cushion, My daughter won’t be able to complain about the bench being to hard now!
The only problem I have now is which way round to use my new cushion?
Me, well I am back to making another back to finish off the original cushion again!

Wow, I love the idea of having the crochet flowers work as buttons! It sounds like it will work great on your wooden bench, and it’s a good way to avoid extra sewing at the end of a project. (Not to mention, your ‘buttons’ and buttonholes probably line up really nicely!
And it just looks so happy. š

I just had to borrow my hubby’s math skills to place the flowers evenly across the back, I can never get my head around stuff like that I usually achieve through trial and error!

That Apache Tears pattern is just too pretty to waste, isn’t it? My husband has informed me he wants an afghan for Christmas, so I get to have fun, too!

Wow, I think an afghan in Apache Tears will take some patience but will certainly be worth it, I like the fact that it is a good pattern for men as they are difficult to come by. I thought about making a scarf for my hubby.

Yes, it is crochet, using UK terms double crochet with a double treble worked into three rows below. It’s very effective for such a simple stitch pattern.

This is beautiful. I love the floral buttons – so effective. I’ve gone a bit mad on cushions lately. I didn’t realise how many I made the last few months until I took a photo of them all together. I wonder if it means something?
